The team was a result of the continuous expansion of the National Hockey League; therefore in 1972 the franchise became the team number 15 of the NHL.
Throughout their history the team became real powerhouse achieving several division and conference championships as well as four Stanley Cup trophies.
During the previous three seasons the team has not been successful at qualifying for the regular season playoffs only in 2006-07 when they lost in the quarter finals to the Sabres.
Currently, the team counts with a very complete roster amongst which we can mention some of the following players: defensemen Rob Davidson, Bruno Gervais, Andy Sutton, Jack Hillen, and Freddy Meyer. Forwards Richard Park, Shawn Bates, Ruslan Fedotenko, and Miroslav Satan.
The Islanders home arena is the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum located in Uniondale, New York. |
