The St. Louis baseball team known as the Cardinals was founded in 1882 as part of the American Association. A few years later in 1892 the team became part of the National League.
The Cardinals have won a National League record 10 World Series titles, only second to the New York Yankees that have obtained a total of 26.
During the 1920s the Cardinals won their first National League pennant and achieved additional back-to-back victories in 1930-1931. One of the team’s strongest rivalries is with the Chicago Cubs.
One of the most accomplished Cardinal player was Stan “The Man” Musical, who spend 22 years as a Cardinal and won three NL MVP Awards.
The team’s new stadium called Busch Stadium was opened on April 4, 2006.
In the season 2007 the Cardinals finished third in the NL Central with a record of 78-84. |
The 2008 season will be 127th season for the franchise in St. Louis Missouri and the 117th season as part of the National League.
